Opera 9.5 released

9.5 has
a "new engine", which drastically increase the speed.
syncing bookmarks between desktop opera and opera mini/mobile

I would invite opera expert to fill the rest of the information, since I have a hard time separating what's new in 9.5 over 9.2 from all features of opera since 2000. Opera.com seem put them all together...

Just downloaded it. There's quite a few GUI changes. New icons etc.
One thing that I don't like with this new build is how the status bar is now on as default. There's really no need for it in any browser (IMO) as it just has a zoom button as well as a few other things.

I haven't used Opera much since FF3 came out of alpha, but I have to admit it is so much snappier. (even more so than Safari )

Edit: Just done a quick speed test.
Opera took 20s to load, FF3 RC2 took 25s

That's 1.25x faster.

To be honest, I can't see much of a difference. I'm not noticing and great speed increase, a lot of my default settings which were carried over in previous upgrades have had to be reset and it's taken about ten minutes of faffing with this page to reply.

And STILL no minimise tabs- Goddamn MDI

To be honest, found the new interface / toolbar to be very ugly.

I really felt like I had stepped way back to perhaps Windows 2.x or almost as far back as the graphical DOS Shell that came with DOS 5.0 (I think it was 5.0).

I seem to recall Spry Mosaic as having a more refined looking toolbar.

I opened it, I looked at it, I was turned off, I closed it. Bad upgrade. I didn't even want to try and use it.

Oh, but it did crash on it's first page load attempt (loading it's default homepage). So, at least I got to see it do something.

I've been using it all afternoon ever since I first saw this post in fact and it is pretty quick however it isn't that stable at the moment for me.

I am thinking about switching over to it permanently however the stability issue is a sticking point, also doesn't have inline spell check?

Guess I will wait for Peregrine to come out.

Trying it out for the first time ever. Not sure I like it that much over Safari but it is quite fast. Indifferent at the moment.
