I never noticed this but I just did update and now it is showing me 4G not 3G at my work never seen this before update it this a fluke or did they change over with update ? I have the iPhone 4S

They just changed the picture. The iPhone 4S is still a 3G iPhone. By AT&T's marketing standards, it's a 4G phone. And by technical standards, LTE isn't 4G.

Only the AT&T 4S will say 4G and even then, not everywhere. Only in places where it can connect to a HSPA+ network, which is what AT&T calls 4G.
