Hey, I have an Early 2008 MBP, and I ordered the matching 4gb Crucial ram upgrade kit. So, I installed both modules, and nothing. Screen's blank, I can hear the disk drive kick in, but nothing else. Keyboard's totally unresponsive. I tried starting it with one module in, that's one of the new ones, and I get the same response.

However, when I start the computer with one of my stock ram modules with either of the new Crucial modules, it works; registers as 3 gb, and shows the module as being okay in System Profiler. I'm out of ideas. Anyone?

Is it possible, or have you tried to seat them again once more after you saw 3GB register?
