i am thinking about to get an iPhone 7 or iPhone 8
The price of iPhone 7 is more attractive to me, while wireless charging and the better chips on iPhone 8 is not attractive to me.

from time to time I need to film short clips . However, I am not professional in this area.

What do you think ? Are there big difference between 30fps and 60fps in 4k recording mode?

4k 60fps seems to have poor dynamic range. The required high efficiency codec comes with its own tradeoffs. Video can look a little more grainy and you will run into compatibility problems.

ultimately up to the individual.

Sorry I don't understand
Did you mean that 4k 60fps is still not the time now ?

saying that Apple's 4k 60 fps video clips look grainy with blown out colors when there is a high dynamic range in brightness. Also 60 fps looks grainy and makes it harder to export / edit because of the high efficiency codec being used.

Unless the iP8 having specific feature you need or you like having the latest and the greatest, i would go with iP7 128GB (double the storage for less money over the base iP8), and since you planing to make 4k videos you'll appreciate the extra storage space.

How large is the size for a 3 minutes 4k 30fps and 60fps video respectively?
my video will be mostly 3 minutes without speech (quiet environment)

3min 1080/30 = 180MB
3min 1080/60 = 270MB
3min 4k24 = 405MB
3 min 4k30 = 510MB
3 min 4k60 = 1.2GB

How large is the current version of iOS that will occupy an iPhone? I am still thinking if I should get an 64GB i8 or 128GB i7

If you plan to shoot 4K videos, I'd go with the highest storage I can get. A 128GB leaves you with 114GB usable (at least my 9.7 Pro came with that) and a 64GB has around 55GB if I recall correctly. More or less, if it isn't that it's close.

is iPhone 8 with 64GB should be the best choice for me?

Since iPhone 8 is with better chip so it can withstand a couple more versions of update of iOS than iPhone 7, and
64GB is enough if it leaves 55GB because I don't do anything otherwise (don't play games) and I transfer the video to PC computer from time to time (but of course I will install some common Apps like whatsapp and facebook, instagram... will those apps take a lot of space?)

iPhone 7 128GB is good but the chip is older. I plan to use my iPhone as long as possible because it's expensive. My last iPhone was iPhone 4S bought in 2012.

Am I making the best choice for myself?

Since you’re planing to make 4k videos, Unless 4k60fps is a must for you, U should get the iP7 128GB over iP8 64GB for the extra storage space.

That been said, if you're planing to keep it for the next 5 years or so, save a bit more and get yourself iP8 256GB. ;)

I just think spend so much for basically, a mobile phone, that it's hard to accept. Maybe I am an old school guy

won't 64GB be enough for my purpose?? as I said, I don't play games and will only install common communication apps only like Facebook ,whatsapp, Instagram and will probably use the map apps, for driving

Im with you with the high prices, and on top of that i dont like this 'bigger is better' trend.. so correctly im using the SE. ;)

Only you should know how much storage you need.
32GB would be more then enough for my needs since i dont take 4k videos, make to many pics, having big music library or having 100s of apps. but in the end i got myself the 128GB version - the extra storage is always welcome.

My experience testing between 1080p/60 and 4K/60 was that 1080p was much more stabilized. 4K stabilization was just poor to nonexistent esp when comparing difficult shots like off-roading. 1080p is impressively stabilized.

I’m incompetent at video editing but I’m assuming you could fix it post.

Easier for me to just shoot 1080p/60 and have it done already. The stabilization is really impressive when I compare the two.

You can always use a gimble. There are many low price gambles out there now though is still prefer my DJI Osmo.

Of course 4K 60 will look more grainy vs 4K 30 if you compare same shots. It’s double the frames per second, so it has to bump the ISO up in order to achieve the same exposure.

Just because you say "Of course" docent mean it was obvious to @bj097 bottom line is, if OP is interested in taking the best LOOKING footage 30 FPS is the way to go (on the 8 / 8 Plus / X) If op wants smoother looking footage that is prone to artifacts and poor dynamic range when compared to 30 FPS video on the same device 60 FPS would be the way to go.
