I'm only upgrading one of my AppleTV's to 4K. Although the other TV's are capable of 4K (not HDR I don't think), I don't plan to upgrade them yet.

With Apple automatically upgrading movie purchases to 4K, will they still be available in HD for my older AppleTV's? I'm assuming yes, but I haven't seen an official statement from Apple. Would hate to get converted to 4K automatically and then have movies that are not playable on the older AppleTV's.

I'd guess it is like HD now.

if you have a 1080 TV, HD plays that way...
if you have a 720 TV HD plays 720...

it'll show the best available and streamable to your TV (unless you change that setting).
