Okay folks I appreciate there have been quite a few posts on this but any up to date advice would be appreciated.
My set up:
Late 2011 Macbook pro with HD6770 1GB discrete video
AOC U2868PQU 4K monitor connected by mini displayport to displayport cable
Under Windows 7 via Bootcamp I can run this set-up at 3840 X 2160 at 30Hz no problem, ie there is no hardware reason why this shouldn't work.
Under OS X 10.10 I get NO display via the displayport cable on the external monitor at ANY resolution even if I use SwitchresX. The monitor's blue "power/active" LED lights up but the display remains blank.
If I use a mini displayport to HDMI cable under OS X 10.10 via SwitchresX I can get 2560 X 1440 at 30Hz but nothing higher.
Clearly with Windows 7 working fine with the exact same hardware this must be an OS X or driver issue.
Has anyone with similar hardware got this working with Yosemite?
