Hello all,

I am looking for a new monitor with the following "wishes": 4k (maybe 2k) with built in webcam and speakers and much less expensive than Apple displays. I am retired now and I don't watch videos or am I a gamer. Just basic web browsing, email FaceTime, etc. I have an older Apple 5k display for my Mac mini and it is wonderful, but I was working then and now I don't want to buy ( or need) a $1500 monitor. My. Budget would be $600- $800. I want to get a Mac mini setup for my wife. I've done some searching, but can't seem to find what I would like.

I find it's easier to just get an external camera, but I do understand many people do not like the look of an camera mounted on top of the monitor.

Perhaps check out the Samsung ViewFinity S9, which has an add-on matching camera that sits on top but which is quite small and unobtrusive.

Note that I am not personally endorsing this monitor because I've never seen it in person, but it seems to mostly fit your requirements. It's US$820 at Amazon USA.

Thank you for your reply. I read quite a few reviews and there were 20+% one and two star reviews. Many said that as a monitor it looked good but the setup was a nightmare. In some cases you had to use a supplied remote control to do things, not your keyboard.

Thanks again and I'll keep looking. 😊

You'll probably get a better-quality webcam if you buy a display WITHOUT one, and then add it on as a separate purchase.

Yes, it won't look "as integrated".
But again, the quality will probably be better, especially if the webcam is 4k.

Thank you Fishermann. I have been thinking the same thing (external 4K webcam) and I was wondering if you have any experience with different brands. I don't care it is integrated into the monitor, but I do want a good quality camera. I've seen some with integrated speakers which I would lean towards because I Facetime friends & my wife does have regular Zoom meetings. I am used to the Apple Display quality and would hate to have one that does not do a good job.

I am currently in search for a new monitor myself and I have to say that the sound quality of integrated speakers of the monitors that I've checked (300-400$ range) is really bad. I don't even know why they bother including them into the design. The only reason to use them if you have no other speakers at all.

There is no doubt that you will get much better results if you'll purchase your setup in three parts, not one. 400-500$ for the monitor, 100$ for the webcam and 100$ for the speakers and you're set.

You've just described 95% of office environments. This is also probably one of the reasons they put a speaker into the Mac mini.
