Hi all,
My 4K monitor is the only thing between me and a new rMB. I think I have a pretty good handle on the experience with the Apple HDMI dongle -- 30hz, no HDCP, 1920x1080 HiDPI only, etc.
There was an early review -- I forget which one -- that used the Google USB-C to DisplayPort cable to show that there were some scaling options available when that cable was used. Has anyone tried or can anyone try to connect to their 4K display with DP instead of HDMI and report results?
30Hz doesn't bother me -- I am at 4k30 with a 2011 MacBook Pro that shouldn't work with 4K but somehow does, and I honestly don't notice a big difference. But it too is limited to the 1080p HiDPI mode and one scaling notch higher would be ideal.
Appreciate your insights. I really want a 1.3/512 rMB over an rMBP13, as I'm constantly on the road... Just wish the 4K experience wasn't such a compromise.
