I was wondering what your speculation the screen size(s) would be if Apple releases the rumored 4K iMac? I personally hope that the screen is not too large, i.e. above 27".

The current iMacs have resolutions of:

21.5": 1920x1080
27": 2560x1440

Now, the minimum that Apple will do is double the resolution and software scale x2 appropriately to give the 'retina' display. That will put the resolutions at:

21.5": 3840x2160
27": 5120x2880

UHDTV (the resolution found on '4K TVs', even though they're not actually industry-standard 4K which is 4096x2160) comes at a resolution of 3840x2160, which is identical to the resolution of what the 21.5" Retina display would be.

Hope this helps.

Yes, but I am wondering if they will change their screen size offerings with 4K; and, if so, what sizes make sense?

Well their current sizes exactly hit 4K and above with double resolution, so they wouldn't need to increase the display size to achieve 4K.

Lava that is a good article, thanks.

I would love to see a 24" in the mix, I think that would be a sweet spot for many.
