4S Jailbreak

I want to jailbreak my iPhone 4S. I believe that there is currently a jailbreak out for the iPhone 4S with 5.01, is this correct? If so, what is the easiest jailbreak option to use on a Mac? This will be my first time jailbreaking an iPhone. I can across greenpois0n and will probably use that unless there is a better untethered jailbreak. Also, my battery life is pretty poor (as with a lot of other 4S phones), is there anything in the Cydia store that has helped with battery life? Are most people out there having a smooth experience with their jailbroken 4S phones?
