Any tips on what might be causing this? All apps closed, BT off. Is there another sneaky process going on which I can turn off?

Perhaps poor signal at some point over night or something else like that making the radio work harder and using up more battery?

Possibly some process then. Could be background refresh if that's enabled for some apps. Could be some iCloud sync (that might even be stuck somehow), could be some Exchange sync (possibly also similarly stuck). Have you tried restarting the phone? Perhaps even resetting network settings?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried most of these, including restarting. I think I'll suggest my friend takes the phone to the local Apple Store.

The battery problems are taken really seriously in Apple Store retail.
Get a Genuis Bar meeting, they have tools to diagnostic iOS devices :)
You will be fixed !

Does that mean that they can make your battery last longer? I'm a power user charging daily to keep battery at 100% for next day!

If your battery has really a problem, the diagnostic tool will show it.
In this case (and if your iphone is still under garanty), they can replace for free your iPhone with the same iPhone.
Mine has even been replaced whereas there had no problem on the diagnostic.

Free iPhones anybody???

I think it is just my usage of the phone, nothing wrong otherwise.
