I think I'm looking at somewhere around $550 for the 32gb and to get out of my contract.

399 for a 64GB.

I have another line I can upgrade.

Upgrade fee usually gets waived for FAN customers, so if they charge that, I'll call and ask them to remove it.

Free:) sold my 4s and upgrading from another line. My FAN discount gets my activation/ upgrade fee waived as well.

Assuming I buy a 64GB model, it'd cost me $399 + $240 ETF - however much a carrier unlocked 64GB would sell for. I expect to actually pocket a little bit of money.

Though I'm not sure if I want to go through with it at all. Initially I was dead set on switching to VZW... but I'm going to have to pay a lot more because of their share everything plans. But VZW has LTE where I live, while AT&T doesn't (and probably won't for at least 5 years based on their 3G rollout). On the otherhand, there's not much point to LTE without an unlimited plan... decisions, decisions...

i have a family account (im account holder) with my wife, my mom and my sister.

Now, my Sister uses her own upgrades.... That's fine.

But my wife, always gets my old phones, and my mom gets her old phones (she isn't big on technology)

So I get to use 3 lines for upgrades every year

My line = Due for an upgrade now
Mom line = Due for an upgrade in a year
Wife line = Due for an upgrade in 2 years

See how that works in rotation? By the time i get to the end of the cycle, its restarted with a fresh upgrade plan.

Everyone is happy, and i get a phone every year with a discounted price...every year. ;)

I also have a FAN discount with AT&T. How do you get the activation fee waived?.

Not all FAN accounts are eligible. I guess it depends on the Company. Call and inquire if you get yours waived. I have two lines and have activated or upgraded about 7 phones and always get it waived. Just call CS and ask.

Well I guess that's true in my case as well. Just sold my 4s yesterday and will completely cover the cost plus tax hopefully. Might be cutting it close with the activation fee though.

Full price 64gb ($850?), selling 64gb 4S to Gazelle for $380 and will get a rebate on my AppleCare+ but will then buy a new AC+ plan for the iPhone 5.

It is looking like I will be spending around $550
