Just purchased a 4s from a local shop with 5.1.1 I, waiting for a paid unlock to happen. Three days is the estimate, Its activated as far as I can use it without a sim installed. I'm going to be using it on T-Mobile in the US.

Can I JB now with Absinthe 2, Modmyi suggests Absinthe 2 when I use the guide for jailbreaking windows.

Thanks in advance.

With the 4S, there is no baseband hole for a tethered jailbreak to work, so any future version of iOS will require a completely new jailbreak to work.

Compound that with the fact that the 4S doesn't use SHSH blobs. If it gets hosed and a restore is needed, you will be dragged kicking and screaming to the latest iOS version.

Jailbreaks are getting harder and harder to find. The iPhone 4 took about 2-3 months for a working Spirit-like JB from jailbreakme.com, then a low-level hole (actually two, but one got leaked to Apple before it ever was used) was used so iPhone 4 models and earlier could be jailbroken, although tethered. The 4S has only had two jailbreaks, and it could be anytime that Apple releases 5.2, 5.1.2, or something else that will close the JB hole.

That is incorrect. A method to downgrade the 4s was released a month or so ago.

Question..Can I do the jailbreak without a sim card installed?

Makes life simple...Absinthe will jailbreak the device for you without the need to enter DFU mode.

Thanks to everyone for the comments and help.
