I need help to restore a very old iPod in that I had forgotten I had. Apple configurator on a Mac is giving me an error - RestoreOS device removed before restored completed [com.apple.MobileDevice.MobileRestore – 0x9 (9)]

What's my next troubleshooting step? Is there a specific iTunes for macOS or Windows I should download and attempt? Thanks

I don't really know, but I would try using a different USB port. What version of macOS are you using?

Sequoia 15.3.2 - using Restore within Finder isn't working either
On Sonoma, Finder has never successfully completed a restore for any of my iPods (4th gen "Classic," 2nd gen Nano, 7th gen Nano). I use an older Mojave machine running iTunes, or a Windows 10 machine running iTunes.
Would someone in the Apple store be kind enough to restore?
Quite possibly, as long as it isn't activation-locked. If your store is like mine, it pays to make an appointment.

Which iTunes version do you use on Windows?
It's 12.13.4.4, but there's a newer version (12.13.6.1) queued up to download from the Microsoft Store. You can find download links for iTunes for both macOS and Windows on this web page if you don't like the MS Store.

I actually use iTunes 12.9.5.5 running under Mojave on a 2019 MBA for everyday syncing. I have far fewer headaches with that than when I was trying to live with Music.app/Podcasts.app/Finder on a newer M3 MBP.
