Well, I am on my 4th rMBP.

#1 - Horrible ghosting right since day one. (LG)
#2 - Backlight bleed was awful on the left side. (Samsung)
#3 - Came with a nice dent in the bottom right from the store. Noticed immediately upon opening.

When I got my 4th (Samsung), it was good except for some backlight bleed on the right side... Which I could live with. No ghosting whatsoever.

About 2 days ago, the ghosting has started to appear. Yay. And I am 100% sure it was not happening before. It seems to be getting worse over the last 2 days, and I am out of my return period. Yay. So my only choice is to bring it in to get fixed, and give up this MBP for awhile.

Anyway, the point of this is just to serve as a warning - while you might not have ghosting initially on the Samsung panels, it may show up later. (And my first panel was an LG - so ghosting is definitely not limited to one or the other.

Ha, Its funny you post this.

I am now experiencing exactly the same problem with this being the reason for me visiting this forum and coming across your post!

I am now using my third machine after a number of problems.

1st - Internal Rattle, Terrible creaking noise

2nd - Yellow Display

My final replacement machine arrived just over 2 weeks ago now. So I am also outside of my replacement period. After being on a website for a small amount of time and then switching applications I have suddenly noticed some serious screen retention which is still visible on a dark background after 15minutes. This is terrible. I will be phoning Apple on monday to express my thoughts on this. Really disappointed with the quality I have experienced so far with this purchase.

This machine also features the Samsung display

Man that sucks. Contact apple to see what they would do. What are the specs on your machine?

I feel for you as I'm going through a similar issue. 1st - great Samsung screen with lots of cosmetic damage to lid, edges, etc. 2nd - LG with a huge yellow tinted blob in lower left-corner. Looking for another locally now.

Getting tired of repeated returns.

I spotted some ghosting when I first turned on my RMBP upon receiving it. However, it quickly disappeared and I've been using it now for a couple of weeks and have not had any issues whatsoever. I wonder if this is a temperature issue with the screen, causing ghosting only at certain times? Strange indeed.

4day old Samsung has stuck pixels popped up already. I can't do anything about it since I am 5 weeks out and the store was nice enough to replace my last machine last week after it started to pop dead pixels and has some minor cosmetic issues that didn't cause by me.

So people like you are the reason why Apple charges such a high premium on their products and aftercare warranty...:p

I use my (1st and only) rMBP for Ableton, which has a significant amount of contrasting, stationary, UI elements. Luckily, even after hours of working in Live I have experienced no issues.

I feel bad for those of you that have, but figured I would share my success for the record.

ok people, this has gone on long enough. I come here to learn and, to some degree, be entertained.

Where is the "If Steve Jobs were alive"/"Steve Jobs would never have"/"SO this is what happens to quality without Steve Jobs" post?

Steve Job is still alive when my Macbook Air Rev A got a over heating problem. Steve Jobs is still alive when my Late 2008 macbook pro have its screen flickering problem. Steve Job is still alive when my Ipad 1 got a screen bleed problem even my ipad 2 has one. The lesson of the story. Dont buy Rev A product.

You guys must have bad karma or something. My Apple product history has been flawless, and I buy a ton of their stuff.

This is indeed the pattern, when you get one of the affected computers.

Last week we did a headcount at work to see how many have opted to bring in their personal rMBP, since they're not on the list of approved BYOD devices just yet.

So far it's looking encouraging since just less than 31% of those display the problem. I'm positive Apple will issue a fix at some point.

:D

Well not every product I bought is bad. My iPhone 4 well I say still flawless (knock on wood) it never been to a genius bar. My iPhone 3GS is still flawless I drop it in the water still working right now. And use it as a Ipod touch. My Ipod Touch 2nd gen I miss that thing I say it is flawless too. iPad 2 after one replacement still have bleed issue but not worse than the original. And my latest macbook pro Hi res Glossy display Mid 2012 is flawless. That is 3 out of 8 product I bought from Apple that has problem. Usually Rev A product. Not included Airport express, 2 Apple TVs' gen 2 and Gen 3 and iPhone rev A.

I live in Europe, and it is "funny" to see how many Americans are amongst the ones complaining about their Apple products. I am NOT saying it is a cultural difference, but rather that Apple sends out better products in Europe. I would complain the second anything was wrong, and the only two issues I have had in my Apple adventure has been;

- Dead pixels on my 27" ACD.
- Toast power supply on my 1gen Time Capsule after running 24/7 for two years.

Sure my upgraded videocard in my Mac Pro died a few weeks ago, but that was due to extreme overheating.

I seriously have never had a DOA product from Apple, and know very few who has, and I am deep into the Machead community here in Aarhus (Denmark), as I were in Switzerland, and in Greenland. So, I have to deduct that the products shipped to consumers are of a better quality...

3-2-1 poopstorm go....

"Well, I am on my 4th rMBP."

I seriously suggest you return it, and get something OTHER THAN another rMBP.

Your luck with them does not appear to be very good...

I suggest changing the title of the thread, as it is very misleading.

Image retention is completely different to ghosting.
