5.0 tethered -> 5.0.1 untethered (+ baseband preservation)

I'm trying to take my iPhone 4 GSM from 5.0 (tethered with redsn0w) to 5.0.1 untethered and I can't seem to nail it. I'm trying to preserve my baseband here also because I rely on the unlock.

Tried the newest redsn0w as well as Pwnage Tool 5.0.1

Downloaded iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore, put it into redsn0w and pwnage, but when I enter pwned DFU mode and then option + restore with the custom ipsw in iTunes, it eventually errors out at 1600.

Whats going on here? Am I missing a step?

The baseband on OS5 and 5.0.1 is the same. It is 04.11. So, there is no point of going extra step of creating customs firmware. Just upgrade it with Itunes.

No i have 1.59 or whatever it is from iOS 4.0. Thats why I need to preserve.

I see. When you restore your phone, did you put it into DFU mode? also, make sure your hosts file point to Apple server and not Cydia because you restore to 5.0.1 which Apple is currently signing (even you have 01.59 baseband).

Took it a little bit of a different way. Just commented out the apple.com line in my hosts file and it fixed the problem. Thanks though.
