I have the iPhone 4 with the 5.1.1 software, and I want to downgrade it to 5.0.1 so it is available to unblock it. Using Tiny Umbrella, I realized it won't save the 5.0.1 shsh, but it does save the 4.3.5 shsh..

So my question is: is it possible for me to downgrade my iPhone to the 4.3.5 software, get it unblocked, then once it is unblocked update it back to the current software (5.1.1)?

You can downgrade the iOS to 4.3.5 but your baseband will not downgrade.

So no you can't unlock your phone.

You're way off here.
Firmware and baseband versions are 2 different things. You can downgrade the firmware with shsh blobs but cannot downgrade the baseband on an i4 in order to unlock.
So even if you went down to 4.3.5 you still could not unlock it since the baseband is already updated to the stock 5.1.1 ios version.

Sadly, I think you might be SOL. If you're phone is already on 5.1.1 and you didn't save shsh or preserve baseband anywhere in between you're probably on 04.12.01, in which both software unlock and gevey unlock are not possible.
