iTunes shows that my iPad has 5 gb of "other" in the capacity. What could this be?

I have 4.9 gb other, .01 gb books, 1.4 gb apps, .38 gb photos, .79 gb video, an 4.8 gb of audio. I'm stumped on what is taking up more space than my music.

I think on mine, the "other" stuff was content within apps--for example the magazine apps like Wired. Before Newsstand you had to just open the app and download the latest issue, and I think that content was considered "other".

Actually I had this problem as did my buddies wife.

Ours was actually our music files. For some reason they became marked as unknown. I used iPhone explorer to see what it was and it was my entire music library. Even though the music player didn't see any music.

I restored the iPhone and everything was back to normal.

My wife didn't have the problem nor did my buddy.
