Does this mean we won't have to wait months for an untethered JB for the iPhone 5. I know it seemed like forever before we had the first one for the iPhone 4.

An exploit is far for a working untethered JB.
There's still lots of work that needs to be put in, check for bugs and conflicts, and thousands of lines of code.
But its a good thing so hopefully we wont be stuck with just tethered jailbreaks.
