I'm happy to see that rap has increased awareness of and interest in poetry. To equate the two, however, is a serious mistake. The term "rap music" is an oxymoron; talking over a rhythm section reduces music to one parameter, and not even the most interesting (although perhaps the one with the most visceral appeal). Having lived through the age of disco and its eventual demise, I personally can't wait until rap is seen for what it truly is: a fad that lasted far too long. You may disagree with me now, but you'll agree with me when rap is no longer "cool."
