Why are the Apple silicone cases so expensive? I seriously doubt they are any better than the countless silicone cases on Amazon that range between $5 - $15.

Apple charging a huge markup on products available much cheaper on Amazon? Crazy....

But in all seriousness, hasn't this been Apple's business model for some time? The fix is easy, buy the cheap ones from Amazon.

The only way Apple would change their ways is people didn't buy them... and that won't happen.

This guy compares a bunch of silicone cases, including cheap ones, mid priced ones, and the Apple one. He doesn’t like how expensive the Apple one is, but he shows that most of the cheaper ones have worse build quality or get dirty easier, and all of them are harder to slide in and out of pockets than the Apple one, surprisingly.

TIL that R&D costs 5 cents

Yeah I’m sure they sank sooo much into R&D. This from a company that has hundreds of billions in cash on hand. You don’t need to raise the price of a phone case by 20% to recoup R&D, especially when they’re probably already making at least $25 per case at the $39 price point.

Yes, they're overpriced. Yes, I buy it every time.

My bigger gripe is 1) The quality decline of the leather cases. 2) The delayed release of the battery cases. (I always want to get one but since I already spent $40 for a case at launch then I'm not going to buy another 6months down the road.

I found the Apple Silicone case to be the best I ever used...until 10 months in the silicone started to break apart at the bottom. I'm certainly not going to pay 25% more for the same experience.
Hopefully they will be less prone to do that now that the cases fully enclose the bottoms with just a cutout for the charger.

These cases don’t wear well. I’ve had a couple of them over the years and stopped buying them. They’re lint magnets and the smooth soft-touch outer layer breaks down after a few months making it look worse and feel like you’re pulling a balloon out of your pocket every time. It’s the highest quality silicone case I’ve used, but it still suffers from the material used. The leather case is a much better product overall.

Did anyone see the review of the Otterbox case that had a magnet stuck to the inside with sticky tape. Talk about a cowboy builder patch job. Apple cases are much better quality

I’ve had a clear case for the past year on my 11 Pro and it hasn’t yellowed at all. I would buy one for the 12 Pro, but I don’t like the MagSafe logo/magnet on the back

I love clear cases but all third party ones turned yellow on me over the years. TPU cases. Is the clear case for your 11 Pro soft or hard type plastic?

Wait until the Chinese origin replicas hit Ebay, the difference is barely distinguishable.
Not bought a direct apple case or watch strap for years as the replicas are a cost ratio of 10:1 so would rather have ten colour choices than 1, and changing often reduces the wear so they all look new still, which reminds me - anyone want to buy 12 iPhone 11 Pro silicone cases....

The unfortunate part is I liked the large cutout. It makes the swipe up process smoother. I understand the design is less durable though... #thestruggleisreal

I had the same problem with 2 Silicone Cases. I don't mind the lint magnet much, but the bottom lip wears out after several months. BUT, I purchased the Silicone Case for iPhone 12 anyway because it just feels so good in my hand (even better than leather).

I am hopefully that iPhone 12 case will hold up, however, as the bottom is now fully covered and the case attaches magnetically, reducing stress.
