Hi-

Both my wife and I upgraded from iPhone X (256gb, iOS 14.2) to iPhone 12 Max Pro’s. We did the direct transfer of files vs restoring from iCloud. Now, we both have 50+ gb of storage being used in the “other” category in our phones. Any idea on what this might be or how to get rid of it? Anyone else seeing this too?

Mine was like that about a year ago. It was messages, webpages, old apps, and other caches. Try to clear your web browser cash apps and messages and see if it comes down. 7 to 12 gb is normal.

This is why I always set up as new when upgrading and use iCloud for the basics. It means I clear out apps that I don’t use and go through all the settings again. I tend to get amazing battery and no bugs with restores etc. I’m currently on 9.32h screen on time with my 12 Max Pro.

It you literally just finished the restore you might want to give it time. I’ve seen the ‘other’ section be very high on freshly restored phones and after a while it comes back down. I’m not sure if it’s files that were used for the restore that are eventually removed or simply files that the phone hasn’t sorted through yet to put into other categories. But within a few hours or by tomorrow I suspect that you will have a much smaller ‘other’ section.

So we are at >12 hours post restore and we’ve reclaimed 1-2gb. Cleaned the browser cache. Still over 50gb each in the “other.”
