-5000 error when deleting events from iMovie 08

I am attempting to delete events from iMovie '08. When I click "Move Event to Trash" it says "This file could not be moved: /path (Error code: -5000)"

I have checked permissions - I have read&write on the main iMovie events folder and all the directories inside. I repaired permissions and zapped the PRAM. No joy. Any ideas you have would be much appreciated. It is not practical to login to the admin account to delete this stuff.
