I'm thinking about purchasing an external HD (or time capsule for that matter) to store my movies on etc.

Can I add these movies in iTunes without having them on the internal HD?
So if I play a movie in iTunes, it actually streams the movie from the external HD or time capsule?

I have my iTunes directory on my external HD, and the stuff streams just fine to my Apple TV.

yes you can, in itunes, go to itunes tab/preferences once that window opens, go to advanced and uncheck copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library. This will make it stream from your external hard drive and not copy to your internal hard drive.

i'd like my music to copy into the itunes music folder though.
is there a way so i can have my music copied to the itunes music folder but the movies don't?

or would i have to add the music to the itunes music folder manually then?

ya I guess you'd have to do it manually, I don't know another way, sorry.

or can i check the box whenever i add music
and uncheck it when i add movies?

so the music gets copied but the movies don't?

or will this just cause itunes to copy the movies afterwards, when i re-check it, and it finds out that there are movies in itunes that aren't copied to the folder?

yes, that will work, but you'll always have to change it depending on if your adding movies or music.

can you also stream movies from the Time Capsule when you're not home?

cause i read you can access files on the time capsule when you're not at home.
