I am looking to upgrade the 320gb stock harddrive in my 2010 base 15" MBP. I am not sure which one of these to buy, I can get the XT for $96 shipped or the black for about $110 shipped. I would use the 320gb as an external drive so anything over 500gb should be enough storage for me. I use bootcamp for running Windows 7 sometimes as well if that makes a difference.

Thanks

if 500gb is enough for you, i would get a 500gb scorpio black instead of the 750. momentus works too, a lot of people have had success with it, although some would not recommend it. personally i'd just go with a regular 7200rpm drive.

The XT is fastest in boot times, application launching and file copies.

The WD Black 750GB wins in most application tasks that aren't cached.

Personally I like the XT more. The Black tends to get a quite a lot of complaints about noise and vibration. My XT runs totally quiet.

Neither of these drives are very good for battery life. Although the XT's idle consumption is lower.

If you want a 7200rpm drive that's good for battery take a Hitachi 7K750.
