50i or 25p

Hi everyone,

i have a sony v1 which shoots 25p but transfers it to 50i internally!
I'm about to import the footage into fcp but i'm not sure which setting to use on import or for the sequence settings, 25p or 50i. Does anybody know? I'll be capturing using the apple h.264 I think unless anyone can offer a better way...

Capture using the HDV 1080i50 preset. This will capture in the Apple HDV codec. H.264 is only good as a final output codec. You never, ever what to use it to edit with.

I've captured the way you suggested. Why is h.264 only used for output?

Why is h.264 only used for output?

H.264 is designed as a delivery format, not an editing format. It's highly compressed which makes it ideal for delivery (high quality relative to file size) but a pain in the proverbial to edit with.
