A reader of our sister title, PC Advisor has revealed the secret plans for the UK launch of the Apple 3G iPhone. These include VIP passes for people who pre-order the phone online.

Callum McCormick claims that a member of staff at his local Carphone Warehouse showed him details on his computer that spelt out times and dates of the second-generation touchscreen smartphone launch on July 11. The iPhone will also be available at UK carrier O2’s stores.

The staff member revealed that Carphone Warehouse and O2 stores will open at 7.02am on July 11. At the original UK iPhone launch in November 2007 shops opened at 6.02pm.

The revelations continue that from Monday 7 July customers will be able to pre-order the iPhone 3G online.

Customers who order online will be able to collect it instore on the 11th.

Customers who pre-order will receive a 'Welcome Pack' and a 'VIP ticket' (presumably to be able to jump the queue instore on the launch day).

As has been reported previously, the iPhone 3G will definitely have to be activated in stores.

Keep checking with Macworld for further information on the iPhone 3G. Our iPhone 3G FAQ has more details on the launch.

Interesting - but I don't buy it. From the sounds of it the O2/CWH people don't know their butt from their elbow and if I'm not mistaken there was a memo from Apple themselves saying no pre-orders whatsoever... happy to eat my hat come Monday though!
