Two questions:

1) Do the retail stores carry the "Ultimate" version with 512 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, 2.0 GHz i7?

2) Is the SSD on these as fast as that on the new Retina Pro's?

1) No, it's a CTO version. For mine to arrive I had to wait for assembly by Foxconn and shipping from Shanghai.

2) Dunno, but someone else could confirm? On my MBA 8Gb 512Gb Blackmagic speedtest gives approx 400MBs write and 450MBs read. I have the Samsung SM512E but it already has been confirmed that this actually is a Samsung PM830 variety ...

I found that exact combination in stock at the 5th Avenue Apple store in New York City. The website didn't say they had it, but I asked anyway, and there it was. :)

The SSD is very fast. Black Magic shows 400 write, 448 read.

2. not sure.

The store in garden state mall in NJ had all the different combinations in stock.
