Looking to get my first mac & due to my needs, researching MBP's.

Processor speeds aside, I'm looking at 2 particular models - one has a 512mb 9600GT & the other has a 256mb 330M. Which GPU is better? (i.e. does the lower vram hinder the newer video card)

On a similar note, what's the lowest MBP you'd use for HD video editting?

Thank you!

Third one down.

As for your second question, I wouldn't be the one to answer.

Thanks... I think...

That link doesn't really compare apples to oranges as in my case. I'm not asking if 512 is better than 256 on the same card typ, but across two different cards... 512mb on the older vs 256 on newer.

I did that same exact google & found a lot of info that was at best tenuously connected to my decision. That's why I came here & registered - thought it'd be a good resource to find an answer.

Although more VRAM is starting to be important, I'd definitely go with the 330m no questions asked. The 9600 is a two year old chip. Plus... you'd get a much fast processor with the 330m.

skip the 9600m gt. Get the 330m.

something tells me you are looking at refurbished models on Apple's site. Are you?

Don't know if this will help but I've got a 17" 2.66ghz 9600m gt 512mb and a 15" i5 330m 256mb. My son has run starcraft 2 on each. He was able to run it on ultra on the 17" but had to run it on high on the 15" to get smooth graphics.

That's really odd...
