I tested in doors with full signal.

it took me about 25 seconds to load news.bbc.co.uk on 3G

That test does NOT seem accurate at all. I have the original iphone and ran the test. I got (5450 kpbs / 665kb/s) and it said it thinks im on 3G or Wifi, which I am not.

That site seems to be very accurate.

I was very torn about getting the 3G but 40secs on my current iPhone compared to 30secs on 3G just isn't worth it for me.

GPS isn't a deal breaker either.

Oh well, I'll wait another year for the next update.

40 seconds is kinda high for 3G. I just tested it again in a better part of my house it took only about 15 seconds or so.

I am wondering if my 3G sucks, which it shouldnt, its San Antonio. best i've gotten is 1.22 Mbps, 149 kb/s. Even with wifi off it registered a lot of my test speeds as wifi. Only the two on top is my actual wifi at home.
