Hi Gang,

The hours are ticking and the MBP is on a fedex truck to be delivered. Once I get it, what core apps should I add to it tonight. Definitely, Istat pro, maybe visualhub and VLC player.

What other ones should I download so I can get some major more bang for the buck.

Would love your feedback.

That's why I love these forums

Thanks for such a lightning quick response. I'll be downloading like crazy tonight to add cool enhancing apps. Of course Firefox, handbrake, adium etc.

Being a new mac person, I'm glad everyone is so darn helpful. A new time, goodbye windows, hello OSX.

That's a good point... I found coming into the Mac community a few months ago everyone is really helpful... maybe it's just the macrumors forums, but it seems to be pretty universal. There's always someone there willing to give you advice or assistance on whatever you need and there are very few annoying people on the boards. The first reply gives some great resources to start with, here are some that I added right away:

MSN
Skype
Office 2008
Photoshop
VLC
Perian
Flip4Mac
Handbrake
CoverSutra
BitRocket
Quicksilver

hope this helps! Enjoy your computer, you're going to have a blast!

congrats on the new MBP!!

On a personal note, I prefer iStat Menu over iStat Pro. Much easier to keep track of your notebook's stats.
