He received it for throwing himself on a grenade in Afghanistan and saving his own life and that of his fellow Marines.

As the son of a Royal Marine I've always known they are beyond brave and a little crazy but this takes it to a new level.

And he's a fellow Brummie :D

The blast radius of the grenade would have still injured or killed and they were in a compound so may not have been able to get far enough away in time.
