How much actual battery life does a 5400 drive drain as compared to a 4200 drive? And what kind of power management features are on the Mac and PC in order to save battery power (in relation with hard drives) in order for the 5400 drive to not drain as much. Thanks

the amount of power the hard drive draws depends on many other factors, including buffer size and bearing system. most manufacturers will list the power consumption of their drives on their sites.

The new 5400RPM drives consume about the same as the old 4200RPM drives. If they could cut the power consumption of the 5400 drives down, they can/have done the same for the 4200 drives.

Look at the specs on the HD and go from there.
