Hi,

Well my iPod had a bit of a problem and went into restore mode for some absurd reason so I restored it but it said I could only restore to 1.1.5 so then I went ahead and did that and though well I'll update to 2.0.1 when it's restored and working. I have paid for 2.0 BTW. But here's the problem, everytime I press update I get this:
20080809-c384rca5pmq4ax8ef4n9did1kb.png

As you can see, I have iTunes 7.7.1, but the software thing is telling me I don't. When I press download iTunes I just get Software Update which tells me there is nothing to update.

Man this is so annoying, can anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Nick.

As a side note, I've tried restarting my iMac, I've tried using Alt+Update to find the 2.0.1 file manually but I get iPod cannot be updated error - basically I've tried the lot.

Er, that *is* sure annoying!

I think you could try going to apple's website (www.apple.com), and download iTunes from there, rather than using software update. It might also be a good idea to uninstall iTunes first and reinstall it, so you have a clean install.

Thanks, I'll try taking the iTunes application from my Time Machine Backup and restoring it, if that fails I'll try downloading a fresh copy from Apple.com.

Thanks.

I've just tried that night spring and yet it still refuses to work. Thanks though :)

This is absolutely atrocious. I used to love the iPod, infact it made me love the Mac. Now I've fully switched (Dec '07) I hate the iPod and the Mac.

The iPod is nothing but slow, buggy and unresponsive. It sends itself into recovery mode every other which then usually updates to 2.0.1 just fine, but this is not the case now. It is constantly causing me problems and it's the most unreliable piece of hardware (and software as far as 2.0 is concerned) I've ever used.

The iMac (which was until Jan '08 the top of the range, 2.8Ghz, 2GB RAM 24" model) constantly crashes and freezes. Safari always has the spinning beachball. Even when I'm just browsing the web and listening to music the disk is writing loudly and the system freezes up.

I can't stand this anymore, I hate to say it (and I always thought I wouldn't have to)... but I have less problems and freezes on my Grandma's Windows Vista laptop, which is a £300 base model Acer with 1GB RAM.... It doesn't have the problems that this £1500 computer has...

I'm going to be emailing support today and see what they have to say, then sending Apple feedback about how bad their software and hardware is.

I feel for you, this sounds really annoying. Neither of these problems should be happening (problems with computer or iPod). But don't give up. Something is going on here, and once it gets worked out you'll be able to enjoy your Apple hardware AND software. Just be polite and very firm when you tell Apple what's going on, and for how long it's been going on.

You got a bad start as a switcher, and you have every reason to be pissed off now, but hang in there. :)

Well anyway by some miracle the iPod updated to 2.0.1 out of the blue and I thought great, now I can just get my backup and restore it onto the iPod. But hey, what's that? My computer has kindly overwritten my older backup (which took half an hour everytime I synced, just incase this were to happen) and now I have a fresh iPod, all my applications saved data gone. All my levels on games an such gone, everything, gone. Why? Because of a major flaw in the software that Apple has made. It backups, but then when something goes wrong, it overwrites the backup as though it were a fresh iPod.

Just great.

I have a Time Machine backup of everything, anyone know where my backups are stored. I could go back to the 8th August and retrieve it.

Thanks.

Backups are located here:
Hard Drive: Users: username: Library: iTunes: MobileBackups
But guess what, my Time Machine shows that there was no backups there on the 8th August. The folder didn't exist?

Well, after managing to get to 2.0.1, and then losing my backup, the problem has worsened.

Now iTunes is claiming it has synced my music to the iPod in a matter of 2 minutes (6GB worth) It thinks it's all on the iPod, but there is nothing on the iPod.

So now I have a music device with no music on. This is terrible. I'm taking this back to the Apple Store ASAP before my warranty runs out and I'm gonna try and get it sorted out, if they refuse to help, I'll just show other customers around the iPod area my problems.
