So I've been bored lately, and I've been looking through the forum archives, and I've discovered a pure hatred for two members by the early members.

The two members I'm referring to are, gocyrus and spikey. I'm just wondering why there was such a hatred for them? Don't want to know why they were banned (although I'm sure the stories are interesting), I just want to know why they were disliked so much.

Hmm. I've been around since 2002 and, to be honest, I can't even recall the members you are talking about! They must have done something, but what it was I can't remember :eek:

Well, from what I've read, spikey had a tendency to call people homosexual slurs, but it seemed that everyone took it jokingly. gocyrus though, I honestly can't figure out what he did to be hated so much. Thanks for posting though! Many of the posts that were linked to in any of the archive posts, have been deleted, or edited down to just one letter. It appears that MacRumors had a dark past.

There is always going to be people who don't get along. Always has been, always will be.

I'm jw, because I've never seen anyone on any forum that I've participated it hated so much, and I'm also interested in the forum's past. Yeah, I know I have to much time on my hands, when I'm reading 6-7 year old posts. Is this some deep dark secret? If it is I'll drop it.

Now you've gotten me interested as well..

From a brief look, it looks as if gocyrus would start a provocative thread that would receive many replies and opinions, then after it had grown in size, delete the thread (which was doable back then), therefore sending everyone who'd posted in there's post count right back down again.

Hope that answers your question regarding him, spikey you already seem to have gotten the answer for. :)

Then you would have to throw Swanny and mymemory in there, and whoooosh, there goes the neighborhood... although Swanny was just "out there".

Early on there was a like a secret society around here, before the demihood, and it had a lot of play, but some of the older members will have to recall what it was all about. It had a name that I can't recall this early in the morning.

Pointless, but interesting for those w/ no life like me. I honestly have nothing better to do, until September 2. I fear that my post frequency will begin to suffer when I start high school, but till then I need to be occupied.

You would do better with a discussion of MR's more colorful members from the past rather than dredging up some of the "blacksheep" former members. Just FYI, there are some that have had some pretty bad experiences and would not want them recalled.

On the other hand, there have been some interesting characters (all for different reasons) to be sure... wdlove, swanny, jelloshotsrule and more

Ask for the colorful members and you may get a list... but most will not want to discuss some of the 'bad times' for very good reasons (and it is not in good taste)

It's a little late in the summer to get a job, and my parents won't let me work during the school year (bye bye dreams of an iPhone:(). I already play electric guitar, and I recently quit playing the cello because I absolutely hate the orchestra conductor. Just to put my boredom into perspective, I have reinstalled Leopard 15 times this summer just for the hell of it (and I have to install Tiger first to install Leopard). I have also reinstalled my boot camp partition nearly 20 times, and call M$FT tech support every time to get an activation code. In review I HAVE NO LIFE!!!! I'm doomed to be some geek that lives with his Macs, and talks to the computerized voice for company.

True, I'll be renaming the thread to reflect this. I'l probably be able to learn the story of some of the retired and banned members.
