So, I know there are those that have issues, but I thought I'd post a test I did yesterday. As a starting point, I've got a 88829xxx phone. Factory-88? week 29 phone with the 2.0.2 update. I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
From work, my 3G is pretty weak inside the building, but as soon as I'm outside, I get full bars.
1. Get in the car and start Google maps and switch to hybrid mode. Get my location by cell tower circle immediately and then the GPS lock within 5 seconds after that.
2. Start driving home. The circle tracks perfectly the whole way and the map updates along the route. 3g comes and goes. When it goes, screen updates stop. As soon as 3g is back the map updates.
3. Get a call while I'm driving and the tracking stops (obviously). After I hang up, the map reappears and I go from location by cell tower to GPS lock instantly and the map updates from where it last cut out. BTW, the screen was real warm. I had the phone connected to the charger, and the screen had never turned off. So, if we ever get turn by turn, we might need to watch out for the cases that protect the phone in case they block in some heat.
4. Stop off a the grocery store. When I walk in the store, the GPS dot disappears after about 15-20 seconds, and I'm back to location by cell tower.
5. Come back outside and re-establish GPS lock within 5-10 seconds.
Now, I think back in 2.0.0 the map didn't move. I don't really remember, and I didn't do this test with 2.0.0 or 2.0.1, but since there was some GPS comments related to 2.0.2, I thought I'd post what I found.
