TV Shows Out Of Season Order In iTunes 8 Gridview

I've just installed iTunes 8 and looking at grid veiw a couple of shows seasons appear out of order. But they appear in order in list veiw. Does anyone have any suggestions to make it in order?

The Office and The Simpsons are out of order
 
Same thing happened with me for a couple of my TV shows.
All I did was change the year on the first file of the season
Both Season 4 & 5 of Alias are 2005, so I changed the first episode of Season 4 to 2004.

Although now not 100% correct, it seems to have sorted the problem.
It was killing me having them out of order.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
 
I have changed all the years on the seasons. Season 1-2005 Season 2-2006 etc. etc. and they still haven't moved do I need to close and re-open iTunes or something as it is not working.

Mine just instantly moved.
Maybe try re-opening?

It's pretty irritating though.

Also, I hate the way music videos are grouped! Grrr! I don't want to see them in my Music, they should have their own tab again!
 
Well right now i'm downloading a episode of Monk so once thats done I will re-open and see, and by the way we're is Season 6 of Monk on iTunes I need it not only to get missing eps but also for the artwork. I know what you mean about the music videos, i'm a real organisation freak and it really annoys me.

I had the same problem with virtually all of my library too! (and refiling 12 seasons of South Park and another 6 of Family Guy is really annoying).

The best solution I found is to fill the Info section (Artist, Album Artist, Album, Year, Track No., Disc No., and Genre). That really seemed to do the trick, and now it's so much easier to do
 
Try right clicking the season thumbnail, click "Get Info", and under the "Sorting" tab, edit the "Sort Show" title to:

Simpsons 1
Simpsons 2
Simpsons 3
etc...

Seems to be a new feature? I don't remember being able to do this from iTunes 7.
 
I had the same issue and it was driving me absolutely up the wall. If you sort TV shows by title, by default it says that within shows with the same title, they're sorted by artist. For The Office, for example, I found that only by changing Sort Album Artist into The Office, Season X for each season, would they appear in the right order.

same thing i do with audio books, im sorry but not having the HP collection in order was keeping me awake... is this a bad thing.

any way good sugestion.
 
In grid view, it forcibly applies a secondary sort to the Artist field. This drove me nuts too, but I went through last night and redid the Artist field since it doesn't display under TV Shows anyway. I just revised from "Heroes" to "Heroes (Season 1)" and so forth. All fixed without much problem. It was just frustrating until I realized the problem.

However, the fix is not so easy when it comes to movies. The Movies section displays fine, but I keep playlists to determine which of my movies are iPod compatible and which are not, and the Grid view works great for this. But the forced secondary sort of Artist means it's not sorting by the Title of the movie anymore, but by the Artist field which I have populated with the production company. I don't know why we are forced to sort by something - iTunes should give us the choice. :(

I tried this and it worked for The Office - seasons 1 and 2 were both 2005. Changed the first episode of season 1 to 2004 and the sort order was corrected automatically. so it looks like there's a bug for seasons that start in the same year in grid view?
 
Year shouldn't make a difference in how the TV Shows are sorted.

Make sure you're sorting them by Title and not by Year.

It's not the out of order issue in Grid View that is making me crazy...it's once you select the season of a show, they are not displayed in Episode order!

If you look at them in List View, the Episode order is shown correctly.

Huge oversight that completely nullifies any 'usefulness' of the Grid View.

This may or may not be the solution to your problem, but when I tagged my TV Shows, I put the episode number (1, 2, 3..) into each of the three fields:

Track #
Episode ID
Episode #

If any of those or missing, try filling them in and see if it fixes it.
 
Episodes will, by default, always sort by the episode number, not episode ID. If you sort your TV shows by the show name in any view, the episodes will show in order if the Episode # field is populated. I've never had problems with this. However, I was affected by the shows themselves getting out of order which I fixed and now am not bothered by anymore. Good luck. :cool:

1st pic shows some shows displaying properly...others not so much.

2nd pic shows the Episode listing when in Grid View. They are NOT in the correct order.

3rd pic shows the Show Detail, including Season, Episode ID, and Episode.

Last pic shows they are still displaying correctly when in List View.

Any ideas what is going on? Yes, I have the "Sort by" set correctly.

In your second screenshot, it shows you're sorting by the first column which is track number, a field you haven't populated with information. That's why it's out of order. Sort it by the name of the show and it'll be fine, or add the episode ID field and sort by that. Either will result in the same thing. :cool:

actually if you just hit sort by season it will put the episodes in the correct order

Doesn't work.

Also, you might note in the List view, it is sorted by show, not by Episode ID or even Episode # and it orders them properly.

List view and grid view are different though. Like I said, sorting by show will put them in the correct order. Or season, or episode ID. If for some reason this isn't working for you, throw up a screenshot.

I suggest if they are mp4's that you get MetaXand you tag then with artwork, show info, episode numbers etc etc, It will really help you.
