I want an iPhone, though, I don't want to trek all the way down to the Apple store just to get one (am I the only person here that loathes the Apple Store?). I understand their desire to prevent the "jail-breaks" that hurt theirs and ATT's margins, but I would imagine the lack of online availability would hurt them more, in the long run.

eBay isn't an option.

seeing that you are from chicago you should have no problem finding an at&t store = to buy one. from what i hear they are now readily available in those at&t stores, i just got a new one this morning from an at&t in my local area

ahhh - I didn't know they were available in ATT stores. I think there's about 30 within a 5 mile radius of me :D

thanks guys

I understand your feelings. There's something about the Apple employees, which I rather keep a good distance from. I think these guys spend their off-time hugging trees and smoking some hashish.

ATT stores and Best Buy. I guarantee that you're near one.

quick question:

my company requires that I sign up for ATTs unlimited "data plan", along with the voice plan. From what they describe it as, I understand the data plan is for texting, internet and email usage, etc, but is it also intended for broadband internet usage (ie: tethering the iPhone to the laptop and using it as a internet proxy)?

I ask because I'm currently paying Verizon wireless for wireless broadband service for my MacBook Pro. If I can cancel that and use ATTs service for wireless broadband, that would be beautiful.

The iPhone 3G data plan is unlimited...you just have to add a texting plan.

Also, AT&T does not have a tethering option for the iPhone at this time.

If you are eligible for upgrade, you can order it online and have it shipped to you. But not with a new plan. Interesting because I just ordered mine online as an upgrade. :)

Edit: My mistake.. Yeah I'm a 'premier' member because we get employee discount from International Paper.
