Ok, so I'm tired of my standard Firefox icon and I go to change it using the <command + i> method and trying to copy and paste in, but for some reason its showing up as the png icon. Like there is not even a picture there. I'm not really sure if I am using the wrong file type or what. I know that the Icon I'm trying to paste is a .png file but I'm not understanding why it's not showing up.

It sounds like you are copying the .png from Finder and then using that as the icon.

What you need to do is to is open up the .png in Preview and then press cmd+c then use the cmd+I methog with the Firefox application.
