I bought the 2.53Ghz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, custom 320GB 7200 RPM HDD.
To the original poster: I didn't get the 2.8 Ghz because the performance gain is negligible (in my opinion, from reading multiple benchmarks) compared to the 2.53 Ghz while the price difference is substantial (again, in my opinion). Plus I think the 2.53 Ghz is the P9500, not the T-series like the 2.8 Ghz one (T9600), therefore it is more energy efficient (25W TDP on the 2.53 Ghz vs. 35W of the 2.8 Ghz). So battery life should be better.
I just bought a 2.8 GHz, 250 gb 7200 rpm MBP. It's going to have to last me a long time so I wanna get the most out of it.
Why isn't anyone getting the SSD? Doesn't it offer substantially greater performance than the 7200 hard drives?
No, not at all. To be more precise, SSD drives have no moving parts (think of a flash drive) so they are less susceptible to error. They also use less energy so they're better on the battery. That said, the SSDs read only slight faster and actually write slower than your traditional spinning HD. For the small storage, medicore performance, and outrageous price, it is no wonder that they aren't selling.
Give it a year or two for the technology to improve and for the prices to drop.![]()
ordered 2.53ghz, 250gb 7200rpm mbp. Cant wait.!!!!!!
