What gives?... i mean i must be only one of a few people ordering this out-of-date machine.. while everyone is going ga-g aover the new 15 MBPs.. i would have thought delivering the 17s wouldnt be a problem

anyone else experiencing this massive delay?

Did you order the matte screen? You do realise now that option has to be personally approved by Steve Jobs before it can be shipped, which adds to the delay. ;)

Really though, that sucks, it says 3 days on the online store. I was thinking of getting a BTO, but I may just now pick up a 2.5 in the retail store. They certainly have enough of those on the display.

Yeh, I ordered the Anti-Glare display option. Its the ONLY option at present. Plus I need the 17 real-estate.

Mine is Built to Order blah blah, whatever they want to call it.. 2.6 Ghz chip, with 17 A-G display, 128GB SSD. Thats it. And it takes THREE weeks for someone in China to put a SSD drive in the unit and chuck an A-G panel on?? and Another 7 days to deliver?? WTF? you can fly around the world 3.5x in a loop or fly 7.0x half way around the globe and back. I'm in london, not some back water cave in the middle of no where.

Yes, Regent street store has 2.5 17's in standard config ready to kiss your credit card. but as soon as you go BTO its another planet. They dont even offer BTO in-store? thats plain silly. defeats the whole idea of walking into a 'flagship' store and walking out with the machine you want or need

sort your sh*t out Apple. Pros demand service, and you should have maxed out units ready in the back room. Especially in your flagship store no less. *hmpf!*

Yes it was a 17".

when did you/she order it..

online?

what got me was when i put the config together online it stated 2-3 weeks to delivery. i then rang Apple business store and placed the order as i like speaking to someone. they said 2-3 weeks also. so I placed the order, only to get an email in an hour of placing with a 3-4 week delivery instead!

i'm pissed

She placed it at work on her work site as they have an agreement set up with apple. Ordered on 29th of Sep. It actually arrived ahead of there prediction by 3 business days. Worst part I am now waiting on my new 2.53 15" and it will be her approx early Nov

Man, I hope apple and Nividia have sorted the bad 8600 chip out. They better not be shipping faulty ones with this latest 17 inch revision.. otherwise its just a timebomb waiting to go off

Heck, my Order Status online has changed to "Prepared for Shipment" ! :D

I wonder how long to ship?!.. it still says..

Estimated Shipping: 05 Nov, 2008
Estimated Delivery: 12 Nov, 2008
:(

Anyone else's 17 CTO with SSD the same?

Post your impression once you got it mate.

I'll be getting the 2.6 BTO too, so you're not alone getting this "outdated" machine. ;)

EDIT: Remember to check when your mac is made, so as to determine if your 8600 is among the affected batches.

yeh, thats the 2ND thing I'll do - i'll use coconutIdentityCard, heh. The 1ST is to check the screen. I have no idea what this 'Anti-Glare' screen will look like. Hopefully its like the matte G4 Powerbook screens :D the 3RD thing I'll do is test the SSD for speed :p

Then when I get the time, I'll order a 4GB stick and RAM this puppy up to 6GB :D:D:D

All the Matte screen installers were fired.....they say 4 weeks as they have no idea how to put the screen in....on as serious note, this is BS......I hope that it arrives sooner...
