hello good people,

due to the lack of firewire support i am forced to use my work comptuer as my itunes homebase, and it's an xp pro machine...

...... ofcourse, i plug it in and it is not recognized. what should i do? relativly ignorant with pc problems.

try installing the iPod software disc that came with your iPod first (this is in addition to iTunes)...and let it walk you through the rest...

Make sure of course you also using the most recent version of iTunes as well (6.0.1)

Since you're using Windows XP, when you plug it in, it should be automatically installed as a hard drive.

If you work in a more "corporate" setting, they may have locked down your computer so that you cannot install new hardware/programs.
