Well the custom 5GB iPod Mini has landed, heh. Simply put if you HAVE to have a 5GB iPod Mini and be one of the few who has one, buy a 4GB iPod Mini from Apple, buy a 5GB Seagate Microdrive HERE for $250 and then open up your iPod mini using the instructions found HERE and install your new 5GB Microdrive.
However in about 4 months I have discovered after a bit of digging that Hitachi (The company Apple uses for the 4GB Microdrive in the mini) stated in an interview that they will be releasing a 10GB version of their Microdrive which Apple will then use in the update iPod Mini.
Lastly, if you would like a SUPER FAST iPod mini that transfers songs and data at over 100x the current rate you could purchase a SanDisk 2GB 80x Professional Compact Flash card for about $300 and have the fastest iPod Mini on the planet however you would loose 2GB in space.
Stuff like this is very interesting. Basically for $50 (The price of the regular iPod) and some work you can have a 5GB iPod Mini (Sell the 4GB Micr0drive that comes in the mini for at least $180). It's 4am so I'm going to do some more research tomorrow.
