I haven't seen this reported anywhere, but the new iPad has a 5GHz WiFi radio in it, where no previous iOS device, including the 4S has one.
This means the new iPad can connect to 802.11a/n networks.
In the attached picture, I have my Linksys WRT610N setup with 2 SSIDs, one called "5GHz" on the 5GHz radio, and one called "2.4GHz" on the 2.4GHz radio. The new iPad sees both, and is connected to the 5GHz, where my iPhone 4S only sees the 2.4GHz network.
Pretty sweet!
