5s and traveling abroad??

I'll be traveling to Brazil in June and am taking my 5s with.
I'm with TMO and I've asked for an unlocked code.
Waiting for the email to come in, which will hopefully be tomorrow.

Can someone please help me out and point out what I have to do
to text, FaceTime, etc... from Brazil to US?

It was suggested that I purchase a prepaid sim to receive calls.

help?

Leave your phone at home and buy a burner phone. In Brazil your phone WILL get stolen and you will cry. If you still want to bring your phone then buy insurance, update the Imessege details with the new sim and that's all.
