5s - Far Left and Right of Screen - No Movement?

I'm new to an iPhone and just picked up the 5s. Is there a gap in sensitivity of the screen on the far left and right? I can slowly moved my thumb from the edge of the phone and notice there is a gap in the touch doing anything. Even when i try and select icons all the way against the side, there is no reaction.

Is this common or should i have it looked at?

I think it's common. There is a small border of non screen around the edges where they meet the sides of the phone. In this border, there is no touch screen. Happens to me all the time moving icons.
