5S Order Online, Pick up in store

According to other forum members, in store pickup wasn't an option for the 5 until a few weeks after it arrived in stores.

Given the lack of preorders this year, too, I would assume in store pickup won't be an option either.
 
I spoke with Verizon & and Apple customer service and they both confirmed that this can't be done and you'll have to try your luck in stores. :(
 
In another thread someone posted they spoke with an an Apple Rep and that store pickup would be available Friday. I think that has to be a mistake as we have had have numerous people talking and chatting with reps who said the exact opposite.

I will be up at 3:01 to give it a try regardless. If its a no go, off to the store to line up.

I was not that person, but I also spoke with an Apple rep who stated that he "didn't see why not" when I asked about ordering online for in-store pickup on the 20th.

Hardly an answer the exudes confidence. Again I hope this is the case but I'd be prepared with a backup plan.

I just spoke with a Verizon rep and they said in store pickup will be available starting at 12:01 AM PST.

I wish they would officially announce if it will be available or not.
 
Apple never allows in-store pickup until the stock supply is steady. No way they will do it on the first day with people waiting in lines.
 
I know it's not the same product line, but for the iPad 3 launch they did not have in store pick up option at 1201am. I happened to check later on in the night and the option appeared. I picked it up in store launch day after the rush died down without any issues at all. They were sold out otherwise. Weird.
 
I just checked personal pick up and Grand Central has a 32GB model. No 64GB available anywhere for pick in NYC. Which is what I wanted. Mine is being delivered on Wednesday anyway
 
I wonder when they update the availability online for pickup. I'm trying to decide if I should just hit my local apple store when they open and see if a shipment came in. Online says nothing available and I am sure not taking a train into NYC for an iphone.
