Opening and closing apps on iOS 7 just wasn't smooth to me and that's why I upgraded to a 5 and am keeping iOS 6

Is it still there on the 5s?

The slowness of the animations has nothing to do with hardware. Their speeds were set by Apple. They go just as quickly on an iPhone 4 was they go on an iPhone 5S.

Stupid, stupid move by apple in my opinion. Why wouldn't you want to match the speed of your previous OS? Honestly

I'm guessing it has something to do with the philosophy of being able to tell "where" you are (which is the reason for the translucency.) bad reason, but it's all I can think of.

Because the slower animations feel nicer than the sudden jerk of slamming a new screen in front of somebody.

We're talking about fractions of a second. That's a pretty minor change to be this worked up over.
