Is there a work-around to make time machine work on a 5th gen (A1408) Airport Extreme? Can Carbon Copy work?

The AirPort Extreme 5th gen. does not support Time Machine officially. There have been numerous reports of getting it to work with various degrees of success. The only issue I see is that since it is an unsupported configuration, should a computer go down then your backup may not be reliable when restoring.
