I started the update, my ipad3 restarted and then the apple and progress bar came up. It has been at 25% complete for over 45 minutes now. I'm upgrading from 6.0.

Is it hung, or does it normally take this long? Starting to get nervous here..

Yeah, normally I do it that way. But this seemed like a small update, it's a Saturday morning and I was feeling lazy, so I just did it from the device. Bad idea. I didn't even backup first (although I have some older backups).

Should I restart it and pray?

It's not normal that's for sure. I usually update VIA iTunes, but last night I did it OTA and it installed fine with no hang ups. (iPad 3 also)

Ok, I restarted it.

Now, the little silver apple came up and it has gone no further. It's been sitting there for about 6 minutes.

I am hooked to my computer now, and the ipad is not appearing in itunes.

Quick update IMO.

My 2cents is that only once did I update through iTunes butte several other installations all went quick and easy through my device.
The outcomes varied but install was easy , including last nights 6 minute ios6.0.1
No negative affects seen. It's more iPhone oriented anyway but I'll take it on my 2 pads.

Another restart, still hanging at the first apple.

Not showing up in itunes either, so I can't do a restore.

What should I do? This really sucks.

Thanks for that info.

So now it is in DFU mode.

If I restore it, what will I lose?

Is there any benefit to ipad 3 with 6.0.1 update ?
